From Three Clinics to Twelve: Growing with Purpose
Elica Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) based in California, dedicated to delivering high-quality, primary and preventive healthcare to underserved communities. Since its founding more than 20 years ago, Elica has expanded from just three clinics to 12 locations, responding to the growing demand for accessible healthcare among vulnerable populations. Like many FQHCs, Elica operates with tight budgets, complex funding requirements, and a heavy load of compliance reporting.
The Challenge: Outgrowing Legacy Tools Amid Growth and Crisis
By the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Elica's finance team was feeling the strain of rapid organizational growth and outdated accounting systems. “We were using Sage 50 (formerly Peachtree),” recalls Controller James Mohrherr. “It was a system we’d just outgrown. Everything was manual, clunky, and it lived on a local server — not great when suddenly everyone was working remotely.”
As an FQHC, Elica also had to meet stringent audit and compliance requirements, including the Uniform Data System (UDS) reports for Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and Single Audit reporting for Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA). Their existing tools made it hard to stay ahead.

The Search: A No-Nonsense Buying Experience
James initiated a search for a new ERP system by searching online for top-rated accounting software and found Multiview. Multiview stood out — not just for its functionality which was impressive, but for the integrity of the experience. “Multiview offered great value with the right combination of functionality, support, and long-term flexibility. Plus, they were the only one of the vendors that we evaluated who didn’t use high-pressure sales tactics,” says James. “That mattered to me. They just listened to what we needed and showed how they could deliver it.”
It helped that Multiview connected Elica with another FQHC already using the platform. “That peer conversation was valuable. We were able to talk FQHC-to-FQHC, which gave me confidence.”

Implementation During the Pandemic
Elica went live with Multiview on June 1, 2021, during a time when both software rollouts and healthcare operations were being reinvented on the fly. Despite the challenges of doing the work remotely, the implementation went smoothly. “We had weekly Zoom sessions with our implementation lead and a to-do list we worked through week by week,” says James. “I’d never implemented anything remotely before, but it all worked out really well. And our training was also very helpful.”
What Changed: Tangible Outcomes from Elica's Multiview Journey
48% Faster Month-End Close
"We used to report February results in April. Now we report them in March — about two weeks earlier than before," says James. This improvement allowed Elica to prepare board financials well in advance of monthly meetings, giving leaders more time to analyze results.
Simplified Compliance and Grant Reporting
Multiview’s flexible general ledger structure allows Elica to easily track grant-specific revenue and expenses using Related Accounting Details (RADs). "With our old system, we had to create separate accounts for grant tracking. Now we just tag the RAD, and it keeps us compliant with HRSA’s requirements," explains James. He also notes that preparing the UDS report is now “done in a matter of minutes,” thanks to the clean data structure and Excel-friendly exports.
Drill-Down Transparency for Audits
“We used to have physical binders of journal entries. Now I can just click and print,” says James. Multiview’s ability to attach invoices and support documents, plus its clear workflow approval paths, makes audits faster and easier. "Auditors ask, 'Who prepared this, who approved it?' and I can answer with two clicks."
Modernization of Fixed Asset Management
Elica previously managed fixed assets in Excel—now, it's a native module in Multiview. “Our roll-forwards and tie-outs are much cleaner and less stressful during audits,” James reports.
Cloud Accessibility and Remote Work Support
Multiview’s cloud-based architecture enabled remote access during COVID disruptions and beyond. “It was a game changer to have access without relying on a server,” says James.
Scalable for Growth
With four full-time finance team members and multiple sites, Elica’s finance team needed a system that could scale. “We’ve grown, but Multiview’s flexibility has grown with us,” James says.
Preparing for What’s Next
Elica is working toward deeper integration with OCHIN Epic, their electronic health record system. “That integration will save us hours of manual work every month,” says James. “It’s not a matter of if, but when.” The team is also looking ahead to dashboard adoption and potential payroll integration with Paylocity.
A System Built for FQHC Realities
What makes Multiview stand out isn’t just its features — it’s how those features align with the complexities of an FQHC. From grant tracking to federal reporting, from audit readiness to remote work, Elica has found a system that meets the moment.
“In an FQHC, you’re often having to do more with less. Multiview makes that much easier,” says James.
