A growing network built on access and accountability
For more than 45 years, Valley-Wide Health Systems has delivered essential medical, dental, and behavioral health services across 14 rural counties in southern Colorado. As a federally qualified health center (FQHC), Valley-Wide’s mission is rooted in access — ensuring care reaches patients who have been traditionally underserved.
When Valley-Wide merged with a behavioral health provider two years ago, the organization’s scope and complexity expanded significantly. “We’re an integrated system,” said Heidi Richardson, Controller. “Some of our sites have behavioral health right alongside medical; others are separate, but everything connects. Nothing’s very far away."
That integration meant the finance team needed equal visibility across every clinic, grant, and department — something their legacy accounting system couldn’t deliver.
Leaving manual processes behind
Before Multiview, Valley-Wide relied on an outdated ERP called CYMA. “It was very antiquated, very manual,” Richardson recalled. “It was hard to get information out. It was hard to get reports out.”
Searching for historical data or linking financials to grant activity meant digging through stacks of paper, which took hours of manual effort.
When the finance team evaluated three ERP platforms, Multiview rose to the top. “We loved the reporting flexibility,” Richardson said. “And we could finally attach invoices instead of keeping everything on paper.”
Four years later, Valley-Wide has completely modernized its audit process in Multiview with digital workflows, electronic invoice approvals, and smooth integration to its NextGen electronic health record.
“The interfaces work really slick,” she said. “From accounts payable to patient refunds — you don’t have to think about it because the data just moves the way it’s supposed to.”
Implementation that worked and kept working
Transitioning from CYMA to Multiview was seamless. “The implementation went very well,” Richardson said. “General ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets; everything worked as expected.”
Because Valley-Wide approaches materials management a bit differently from most organizations, the Multiview team helped them configure the module to fit their workflow. The result was a streamlined system that supports purchasing and inventory tracking in one place.
“It's working well for our team,” Richardson said. “We can easily track inventory and purchasing activity through the materials module, and it’s made that process so much smoother.”

Real results across finance and operations
Today, Valley-Wide’s finance team uses automated workflows to handle nearly all invoices digitally. Managers review and approve invoices directly in the system, creating an electronic trail that keeps processes transparent.
“Having managers approve invoices electronically rather than emailing them back and forth has been huge,” Richardson said. “We’re not chasing paper invoices anymore. They stay in the system, and everyone knows where to find them.”
Automation also extends to fixed assets. “That module is one of my favorites,” she added. “It creates journal entries automatically. Before, we just had spreadsheets. Multiview makes it so much cleaner. We can attach contracts and invoices, and it works really slick.”
Reporting, too, has evolved. “All the reports are built,” Richardson said. “You just push a button, and it spits them out. We’re good to go.”
Behind the scenes, Multiview’s integration with NextGen ensures accurate data flow between the clinical and financial sides of the organization, a critical benefit for an FQHC managing multiple funding streams.
Grant tracking made manageable
Grant management once consumed hours of manual calculation. Today, it’s streamlined through Related Accounting Detail (RAD) reporting in Multiview. Richardson calls RADs, “One of the most powerful parts of the system.”
Each grant has its own RAD code, and Valley-Wide uses about 40–50 active ones at a time, sometimes with a single staff position funded by several grants. Instead of juggling spreadsheets or manually reconciling payroll, her team can now pull accurate reports by RAD for billing, audits, and monthly close.
“RADs completely changed how we do our grant reporting,” she said. “We used to spend hours tracking down which grant paid for what. Now it’s right there: accurate, fast, and consistent every time. It’s such a huge difference.”

The RAD structure also allows her team to view all grant-related activity — payroll, benefits, and indirect allocations — in one place, giving Valley-Wide’s leaders confidence that every dollar is accounted for.
A partner that feels like part of the team
When asked what stands out most, Richardson didn’t hesitate.
“Multiview’s support team is phenomenal,” she said. “They get back to you quickly and will call and hold your hand if you need it. I’ve never dealt with a company that provides better support.”
A job that still inspires
Asked what she loves most about her role, Richardson’s answer was simple: growth and impact.
“I love that my job still challenges me,” she said. “There’s always something new to figure out, but I get to do it with people who care deeply about what we’re doing serving our communities.”
Watching non-finance managers become confident in their data is especially rewarding.
“When you see someone who’s never been comfortable with numbers start to get it, and they use Multiview to understand their own operations. That’s the best part of my job.”
